Well...I have been busy with many things lately. Neglecting this site has been on my mind a lot recently. So here is an update.
I will going to Owen-Putnam again as soon as we have a decent weekend following a good rain. I hate packing water in just to pan. Plus making multiple trips back and forth to the truck to get everything I need. I want to move farther upstream from my usual spot. I dowsed a good location about 220 meters further up. Looks good on the terrain map but in real life that could be different. Google Earth makes it appealing but I'm not sure.
Looking for new spots all the time. If anyone has a favorite "Glory Hole" they want to share I can post it and people can check it out. My second trip of the Spring will be to MMSF. I want to re-visit old diggings.
Last November, I laid down on the ground near Gose Creek and looked at the lay of the land. I found an indention about 7 ft wide and 14 inches lower than the surrounding area. I was near a place where Tom Van Vleet and I did really good. I planted a whole in that trench about 24 in x 24 in and moved out 12-14 in of topsoil. Then I hit gravels!! My hunch was right. I did pretty good in those gravels. A picker and many nice flakes and lots of fines. I covered my whole and I'll return to it this spring to see if I can find anything new.
If anyone wants to join in my Yahoo Group has been active and there is a forum here that you can post on. Just leave comments and I'll try to get to them as soon as I can. Everyone have a wonderful rest of your winter...!
Heavy Pans,
