Morgan-Monroe State Forest
I have had good luck there in years past. There are locations on Gose Creek, in Deadman Hollow, and in Jordan Hollow. The gold in fine to chunky flakes. Some pickers have been found. You need to contact the Forestry Office for a free Gold Panning Permit. The use of metal detectors, shovels, picks and sluices are prohibited but you can get a decent amount of gold by panning if you work at it. See the Central Indiana GPAA for more details. The Forestry contact info is as follows:

Owen-Putnam State Forest
Another good place where I have had a lot of luck is the Owen/Putnam State Forest. Look for the tributaries to Rattlesnake Creek within the forestry boundaries. There is a lot of bedrock and cracks to work. It's great fun and easy acess. Serber Road which leds to the Rattlesnake Campground has a couple of creeks which you must drive thru and they contain good amounts of gold. You need a free Gold Panning Permit there also. Gatesville, Indiana
A third excellent place to go is Gatesville, Indiana. I'm not sure of the population but if you blink you'll miss it. Robin Stevens owns the store, and also the property on which prospecting is allowed. Check out the store too. She makes really great food for the hungry prospector of any age. Her number is: (812)988-0788. Gatesville is northeast of Nashville, Indiana. The creek there,
Salt Creek, has fine gold but a lot of it. You can pan, sluice, highbank, or dredge. I think there is a 4" limit on dredge nozzles. There is also camping available for a fee.

Cottonwood Trails Gold Camp
Located in Greensburg, Indiana. It's a great place to get away and find some great color. Call Jim McIntyre at: 812-614-3477 for more details.

New Potential Gold-bearing stream
I came across a RV Park in my travels near Cataract Lake. They have a creek that feeds into Mill Creek. Trying to access that creek the weekend of September 29-30, 2012. They claim that gold was found there in the past but not many people look. Mostly campers who just "poke around" in the creek. I'll post more here when I get more info and any pictures of what I find.
